We're doing school

Matthew (3 yrs. old) already knows his alphabet quite well so I decided to start teaching him phonics. I told him yesterday that we were going to do some school and he immediately got excited and went to our school supply drawer and pulled out crayons and index cards. I told him to sit down and we proceeded do the first lesson from Jessie Wise's book The Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading. Later that day he told me, “Mommy, I want to do school again.” Well, I wasn't going to say no. Hey, who would say no to that? So, we went ahead and did lesson two. We finished lesson three today so now he knows the five vowels. He especially likes it when I sing the Old MacDonald's song with the vowels. He also knows the short vowel sounds of a, e, and i. I'm quite excited that he's catching on so quickly.

My dh reminded me that perhaps we need to do more Bible reading. Amen.
